Have you ever tried to juggle? I remember successfully juggling a maximum of four bean bags many years ago, although I am not sure I could do it now. We all manage many aspects of our lives, some areas more easily than others, and my focus recently has been on the dual projects of recording the first Yvonne Parker Mystery 'Field Murder' as an audiobook while simultaneously writing the second book 'Death on the Village Green'.
I thought it would be a good idea to create book two while revisiting book one. Time, and you, will tell if it was, but it certainly created more Author time than I usually allow for on a weekly basis, and it is one of the few times I wonder if I should close down my antiques business and become a full-time author. Two things made me realise that was a bad idea, the first being that there is rather more money going out thanks to production costs than is coming in so probably not the best life choice to make! The other is that whereas many people enjoyed being able to have the time and headspace to be creative during our UK Covid Lockdowns, I discovered I need the interaction of being with other people and the stress of time management in order to work my author brain.
These last few weeks have provided me with the optimal environment for productivity with the additional time required and stimulation of participating in Shaftesbury's free creative writing event, Fiction For Fun. This is my third book festival, but the first writing festival and the first as a presenter, and I absolutely loved it! I don't belong to any writing groups, or do writing courses, so to be among people with similar interests and experiences in the book world was fantastic.
I have also picked up book 6 in the Woodford Mystery series while I am waiting for The Editor to be available for Death on the Village Green, and am very happy to be over twenty thousand words back in Woodford with Cliff, Rebecca, Nicola and Paul. Oh, and one of the Fiction For Fun events I attended was about writing short stories, and the organiser, Fran Hill, has tasked me with writing one for sharing on Shaftesbury's Alfred Radio in the next few months.
I had better get back to my writing desk!
If you would like a free copy of the audio versions of 'The Limner's Art' and/or 'Field Murder' send me an email, and I will reply with your promo code! We all like free stuff!
